Mrok's photo of the day

Neristan

Today had a possibility to do a little bike ride at my hometown and see how things have changed. There were lot of new neighborhoods, roads, shopping malls and areas I could easily be lost.

Still decided to blip this picture from the old wooden district of Kokkola. This is the biggest wooden house area in Finland that has survived the wars and really liked the fact that it seems it's in much better shape than in the years of my childhood.

The part of the town is called neristan, which is a slang mixing finnish and swedish for "lower town". Early days it was place for second class citizens as sailors and other workers in this small town grown next to the harbor. Now it is a place of luxury in the city centre. Funny isn't it?
