Northern Exposure

By Northern

Bonnie purple etc.

There are many beautiful Scottish songs which extole the wonders of the heather on the hills but for some reason it's always this one I end up humming to myself...

Up among the heather in the hill o Bennachie
a bum bee stung me weel abin the knee...

I apologise if the lyrics might not be the ones you know. A wee search on t'inernet showed up quite a variety and revealed to me that what I thought was a fairly innocent wee ditty about the dangers of sitting on bumblebees goes on to describe other outdoor activities undertaken by pretty maids and fiddling soldiers.
