The Edge of the Wold

Face to face

Face to face with a male black darter dragonfly at Foulshaw Moss. The blip jury was split 2:2 on whether to blip this or a reflection photo taken at Conishead Priory. The bigger fella agreed with me that we should use this one.

This is definitely worth viewing large to see the detail on the two enormous wrap around compound eyes. When you consider how good the eyesight is of these creatures, this one was remarkably approachable to capture this blip.

The fellas were keen to see an osprey this morning, so we went to Foulshaw and one duly obliged. While we were watching it, this black darter was basking on one of the posts of the viewing platform, and occasionally on my hat (there are photos of that too).

We then went down the Furness peninsula to Barrow to visit the Dock Museum, where the two smaller fellas successfully completed the quiz. After that we went to Roa Island to look across to Piel Island and to see the Lifeboat station (which has been blipped previously). The Bosun's Locker cafe sells the best English Lakes ice cream, and I'd recommend the Manhattan.

Then finally on the way home we dropped in to see the Buddhist Centre at Conishead Priory, a place I have never been to before.

A good day out rounded off by some of Wifies's best pies when we got home, and now we have the second half of a DVD to watch.
