Crunch!

Daughter Becks and partner Rob are much in our thoughts today as Hurricane Irene arrives in New Haven, Ct. The last we heard this morning was that they were okay but the power had gone so we may not hear anything more from them till it has passed. My brother Rog and his family are in Boston but further inland so hopefully it will just be a storm by then.

Pete and Jen invited us to join them at the Armouries Museum in Leeds today to watch the Jousting Tournament. We were much entertained by the 'fools' and the daredevil riding stunts of the 'squires' before the main event. Apparently the aim is not to unseat your rival but to score points by a hit on the chest (hence the shields attached to the knights' chests. You can see the bits of lance flying off after contact.
