Sweet Blossoms

Waxeye, Zosterops lateralis, aka white-eye, silvereye

This is the male half of the little couple.  I'm certain it is him because they were sitting so close together a moment before.  She was right behind him when I took this shot, watching out as she always does, while he sipped nectar from the blossoms.  Shortly after he was singing his territorial song.  This plum tree is close to the Coprosma berry bush, and part of the triangle he is claiming.  The other plum tree where the syrup dispenser is forms the third point of the triangle.

Notice how slim he is in warm weather, when he doesn't have his feathers puffed up.  He measures about 12cm.  A house sparrow is about 14.5 cm.
