Frans Hals Exhibition

The entrance to a superb exhibition devoted to the 17th century Dutch portrait painter Frans Hals at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

A bit more from JFK: Frans Hals is one of the greatest Old Masters; the Wiki article which I have linked to has many images and a good write-up.

The Met has mounted a relatively modest exhibition, almost entirely with paintings of its own. It owns the largest group of Hals paintings (11 in number) except for the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem (Netherlands), and the show augments them with a couple of loans by Hals, as well as a fair number of related Dutch works and American paintings influenced by him. It's just wonderful (through Oct. 10, if you can get to it).

Tomorrow: Giverny in France.
