Me, myself & I

Watts Gallery

Update on Joey Cat: he had another abcess, was rushed in for emergency treatment last night and is recovery at home. He had obviously got into another scrap but this time the bite was just above his eye. I wouldn't like to tell you how much it cost but a family of four could probably have had a week in the sun for less. My new carpet and furniture is get further and further away. But I love him and he's worth every penny. (Cough, cough, splutter!)

So to today's blip. This weekend is Heritage Open Days weekend. Lots of places up and down the country open for free and many places that don't normally open to the public open their doors (or gates) and let the general public in.

After pfaffing about with Joe this morning I we decided to go to Watts Gallery(above) at Compton near Guildford. You can read all about it on the link. It re-opened in June after being renovated with the help of a Lottery grant and although we've been to the tea rooms several times, we've never been in the Gallery. The Gallery was set up by G F Watts to exhibit his paintings and sculptures which is what it does today. There are several versions of his most famous painting Hope.

It was a pleasant way to spend an afternoon for free. If you're into art it's great. Some of the paintings were a little dark and depressing for my taste but there's a fantastic huge sculpture of a man on a horse (far too large to blip!), so you'll have to make do with the building itself.
