Sgwarnog: In the Field

The Green

It won't be often that I'll be able to say that the highest rated sustainable building on the planet opened at my work place this week, but that's exactly what the new student accommodation at the University of Bradford is.

The Green has been given a BREEAM rating of 95.05%, the highest ever score from the more than a million buildings that have been rated worldwide since 1990.

It opened earlier this week for delegates of the British Science Festival, but over the coming weekend more than a thousand students will move in ahead of start of term next week.

In this image, you see one side of The Green complex, with the distinctive green sun shades over the windows, and a glimpse of the solar panels on the roof. Also in this shot you can see a recent mill conversion, Campus House, which will be 100 years old next year. This combination bodes well for a blend of old and new Bradford.
