Conker season

Conkers: A traditional children's game played using the seeds of horse-chestnut trees. The name 'conker' is also applied to the seed and to the tree itself. The game is played by two players, each with a conker threaded onto a piece of string: they take turns striking each other's conker until one breaks.

Each year the World Conker Championships are held just a few miles from where I live. Aspiring champions from all over Britain do battle, drawing crowds from miles around. This year's competition takes place on 9th October. You can find out more at www.worldconkerchampionships.com

I'm off to Scotland tomorrow for a few days and hope to get some good 'blips' on the trip.

For the record: 17C, sunny spells, fine day.
