Accademia Gull, Venice

This is a view from the balcony of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice.

It's a typical scene along the Grand Canal, with a black-headed gull (another here) in the center. The boat on the left is one of the Vaporetti (now called "Waterbuses") which serve as public transportation in this water-bound city. And there are always smaller boats chugging along: taxis, pleasure boats, gondolas, construction boats.  The Accademia Bridge is in the background--one of the few bridges over the canal (and the only one made of wood); it leads to the large museum of the same name.

We had an excellent visit to Peggy Guggenheim's museum; featured was the very modern collection of Ileana Sonnabend, who was a friend of Peggy's and an important art dealer in New York.

In afternoon we encountered transportation difficulties due to a demonstration, but finally got to the Church of Giovanni e Paolo--important but less impressive than the Frari which we visited yesterday.
