Santa Salute with Gondolas

I'm back at San Marco in Venice, this time looking roughly opposite to the blip I just linked to. This is great large!

In the background is the large church of Santa Maria della Salute, at the end of the Grand Canal. I'm on the opposite bank not far from the Piazza San Marco, next to a set of slips where tourists can hire gondolas--you see two of the gondolas coming in to discharge their passengers, while at least one more waits. (The group with four gondolas which I blipped yesterday would have tied up this place for a while.)

Our main outing today was this afternoon to the Correr Museum (at San Marco), which was disappointing--three major paintings which are in all the guidebooks (by Carpaccio, Gentile Bellini, and Giovanni Bellini) had been lent to an exhibition in Tokyo--one can only hope that the Japanese returned a lot of Euros for them).

It was again cloudy much of the day (but much cooler, blessedly)--with thunder late and a wonderful sunset from our 4th floor apartment.
