Another Languedoc year...

Chapelle St Nazaire

Normally we walk the dogs in our vineyard in the early evening, but as the hunters have started the new season it is likely to be a dangerous occupation. So during the winter we take them to other places and mostly at midday when the hunters tend to go home for lunch.

Frankly, with temperatures continuing around 30 degrees C it doesn't feel at all like autumn. The leaves on the vines, however, are starting to turn the colours of a Turkish carpet.

Today we went to an old walk that takes us through flat vineyards set high on a plateau, looking down over Roujan and up towards the Black Mountains. This walk takes us past La Chapelle St Nazaire which dates back to the 9th, 10th and 12th centuries as extra bits have been added over time. This tiny chapel sits on the edge of a vineyard off a minor road.

I love the ancient stones that must have been gathered from the land around it. The light falls sweetly on these ancient rocks and harmonises perfectly with its surroundings.
