To verbally out manoeuvre a 5 year old...

Bethany has this thing about baking cakes where she wants to do it all herself. This even goes to the point of choosing the ingredients herself that go into her cake. This unfortunately is at odds with my method of baking where I hate wastage of food and if un-ushered, she would have tried to bake a cake from flour, yellow food colouring and red food colouring and good luck.

She was quite adamant and my telling her that she needs a recipe and/or specific base ingredients was met with, "No daddy, I don't need a recipe."

So to get round this, the approach is not..."You need some baking powder in there..." It was..."Would you like some baking powder in there?" or "Do you think you need some sugar in it?" knowing full well that if it's an extra that's offered, it will be accepted and incorporated.

We got there in end and ended up with semi sweet wee cakelets that were on the wrong side of the colour red but still very edible and fun to make for both of us.

Notes on the Picture...
This is the owl that Bethany built for her homework over the weekend. I assisted only in attaching the wings and sawing the top off the bottle.
