Photographing people in London

While people in London photograph people in New York! The Telectroscope has been built! This is an amazing tunnel under the Atlantic - see yesterday's blip for the moment the drill came through the city's surface.

Seriously, it's great fun. A bunch of us (all strangers) gabbled together and wrote stuff on a wipe-clean board, which we showed to the folk across the tunnel in New York. They asked "Brown or Blair?" We asked "Obama or Hillary?" Someone brought their dog to the fore. Then I saw a lady with a camera - I couldn't resist. Perhaps she's a blipper?

This kind of stuff really makes me happy to be in London. Such a marvellous and fun event that really got people talking, smiling, and even laughing together. The last event that the organisers, Artichoke, brought to London is still the most magical thing I have ever seen. The Sultan's Elephant - a huge elephant puppet masterpiece that moved slowly and majestically through the thronged, mesmerised crowds of London - can still bring tears to my eyes. Sounds soppy, and I can't explain in words why it was so wonderful. Magic.
