Arms and Armour

Today I was able to help our Keeper of Scotland and Europe, to introduce a small study group to items from our historic arms and armour collections.

This group were made up of members of two reenactment societies, The Northmen and Medieval Realm. They were happy for me to blip them in return for a plug, as they're always seeking out new participants...

They were like kids in a sweet shop... and were fascinated to get up close and to handle original artefacts... I never knew there was so much involved in making chain mail, but they were talking about all the techniques and methods of producing it.
They were taking notes and photos galore and picking the brains of our keeper. A great bunch of real enthusiasts, who are keen to make their events as authentic as possible...

It's a bit of the job I really like, seeing people engaged and learning from the objects... a great way to end the working week.
