Barking

The Beach Boys

I got up earlyish this morning to go to Reilly's birthday party. There was a hoard of over-excited six-year-olds. We went to 'Clip 'n' Climb' for an hour, followed by a party lunch. All was okay until the birthday cake was brought out and for some reason the kids decided they needed to scream very loud and very high pitched. It took all my self-control not to go all teachery on them! Still, we made it through with eardrums intact ... just.

Party

The excitement bubbles
Like pink lemonade that tickles your nose
Today you are the princess
It's all about you
Everyone's there to see you
The gifts, the laughter
Faces covered in chocolate cake
And candles, six, to be blown out
Just by you.

Others look on
Wishing they could be you
Wishing they could be Princess
For just one day
Wishing they could be the one
To rip off brightly coloured paper
To reveal the treasures inside.

The feeling lingers
Long after your guests have gone home
You sit surrounded by your cache of glittery gifts
You smile as you remember the laughter
How special you felt
You still feel
And you shiver from the excitement
Now, as you did then.

A happy day
That you deserved.

Sleep well little princess
And know you're loved.

Afterwards, I headed into town for a bit of birthday shopping for Canterbury's birthday on Tuesday. I bought him some good stuff. I hope he likes it.

We had a quick blow through on the beach and Cousteau posed for a few shots. I like this one because it's got both my boys in it.

Canterbury's off out tonight with some mates to go and watch the rugby. They'll no doubt roll in in the early hours of tomorrow morning and wake me and the dog up. Tomorrow we have no plans. I expect Canterbury will be nursing a hangover!
