Angourie Point

This is one of my favourite places and a world famous surfing point - for surfers it is one of the best right hand point breaks in the world. In January 2007 it was gazetted as a National Surfing Reserve - one of only a few in Australia - which will give it total protection from any developement, hopefully for ever. It is quite a grey day here again and there is no surf, but no doubt you will see more shots from here on better days.

It is situated in the small village of Angourie (about 300 population) and is only an 8 minute drive from my place so is very convenient. There are a couple of other great spots close by here as well so plenty of beaches to photograph yet. This shot is taken from the top of the hill and the beach below, which is a beautiful little cove, is hidden by the trees. On the right side of the point is Back Beach, a big long straight beach which is also a nice secluded place for a wander.

Google Angourie Surfing Reserve if you are interested in more of the history of the area. One site described it as a very special and very soulful location worthy of deep respect, and I have to agree.

I first visited this spot as a 16 yr old on holidays (long before we moved to the area) and the only habitation at Angourie then was a little A-frame house and lots of long haired surfers - a 16yr old's dream:)
