San Marzanos!

Yesterday at the farmers' market I picked up a pre-ordered 20lb/9kilos box of organic San Marzano tomatoes from one of my favorite farmers. I'm slow-roasting most of them -- halved, sprinkled with olive oil and sea salt, then into the oven at a low temperature for a long time.

The photo shows one of the trays of today's batch just before they went in the oven. Six hours later, I'm just about ready to take those beautiful tomatoes out. I'll freeze them after they cool, and we will have the pleasure of anticipating their rich taste in a variety of ways all winter.
