She climbs, he falls

Spent a another day at Ratho for the second day of the British Lead Climbing Championships. Unfortunately the first bus of the day doesn't leave mine until 10am, so even although it made great time through the quiet Sunday morning traffic, I didn't get there until getting on for 11am and missed most of the first qualifying rounds in the senior men's and women's competitions. In the second round a happy coincidence meant that climbing couple N and R were both on their respective routes at the same time, although sadly I didn't notice straightaway. I was just composing the picture in a pleasing way when R lost his grip and this was the only shot I managed. There were plenty of other shots of the day, with some of the Speed Climbing competition, which was great to watch but didn't produce any outstanding images. That's not to say this is an outstanding shot either, but I liked the narrative, even if it isn't entirely obvious. R failed to reach the men's final, but N got to the women's final where she lost out to the final competitor of the day who managed to go one better and achieved the top-out that N just failed to make. N got a bit of revenge by beating the same women in the first British Speed Climbing Championship later in the afternoon.
