A time for everything

Reflections

Monday
The weather was rather more uncertain today - still warm, but overcast and somewhat threatening at times though it never really came to anything until we were on the way home. We packed up the camper and drove over to Nelsonville to the start of the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway - we had discovered yesterday there was place to park the car and camper. The trail runs from Nelsonville to Athens, home of Ohio University, not to be confused with The Ohio State University in Columbus where my daughter and son-in-law live. The first mile or so was a little uninspiring and very quiet - hardly saw another soul. But then there are some large rock outcrops on the side of the trail and then the trail runs alongside the Hocking River. There were masses of wildflowers in places. At another point there was a dirt-bike track on the other side of the river - we stopped and watched for a bit on our way back. We also came across more cyclists. We were a bit confused by this rail track which appeared later, as we understood the bike trail was on a disused rail line. We turned around about 4 miles short of Athens - our backsides had had enough for the day!!
There is a tourist train which runs from Logan to Nelsonville and that was in when we got back to the car. The people were looking around a small pioneer village, a grouping of old wood cabins and a blacksmiths shop, with interpreters dressed in period costume. We had a belated picnic lunch and then set off home. We ran into a few heavy showers, but they didnt last long.
