Travels Through A Lens

That's Entertainment!

I went to Bradford to see the Photography Festival which is on during October and I really enjoyed it. It has given me a lot of inspiration for some projects of my own.

The photo is part of the old Odeon Cinema building. It was originally called New Victoria theatre and cinema, made of 2 million bricks and the 3rd largest cinema in the country on it's opening in 1930. It seated 3,300 in it's auditorium and enjoyed success with top musicians playing there and finally closed as a theatre in 1968 reopening as the Odeon in 1969 and closed it's doors in 2000 due to competition from new cinemas and home entertainment. Apparently there were plans for it to be demolished at one time but it was saved.

This building has now been standing empty and slowly succumbing to the elements whilst there are still ongoing campaigns to save it and create a use for it. The question is, will it be saved before it gets in to such a state that they will say it is unsafe to remain standing and get demolished anyway?
