Sunday afternoon on the moor

This walk took us up onto Harden Moor after walking through the St Ives estate.

A lovely afternoon with great Autumn colour in the trees and the remains of the bracken and heather on the moor.

I was struck by this lone tree. It has obviously given up the struggle to survive here in isolation but it's white bark against the bracken attracted me. Also the way it has bent with the wind over the years.

This part of the moor was once a stone quarry and some of the paths still show the rutted stones over which the loads of quarried stone were pulled - here
