Village preschool

Over the past few months we have been working on a plan to develop capacity in the areas where we work. At the moment we are selecting 20 new areas, to begin work with, for the following year.
We are focusing on women, or more correctly women's groups involved in self funded micro enterprise, where poor but spirited women save and lend to each other. No banks, bureaucrats or barriers.
The programme is being developed in cooperation with St John Of God Services, our friends in Mzuzu.
Today we met with a cluster; 20 women representing 10 self help groups who are elected to develop strategies to ensure development of the bigger area, affecting maybe up to a few thousand villagers.
They expressed their needs clearly and concisely, headed by water and preschools. They formalised these by writing an action plan for the next six months.
Two days ago I spoke about appropriate solutions to the water issues. Today I present a beautiful, appropriate and sustainable building for a preschool.
The women built it from savings from their micro enterprises.
I love this structure and will work with them on making it a little more watertight for the rainy season, using ideas from a village structure I saw in Karonga last year.
These women were as inspiring as they are amazing. This was an uplifting experience and I look forward to working with them.
Harisen is already working on a plan with them for clean water and sanitation. Mary and Casca will soon develop one for the preschools. Of course there will be difficulties, but these women are the salt of the earth: God's own people. Just watch this space
