A time for everything

Two down, one to go!

Sunday
Last Sunday afternoon was our daughter Laura's graduation from high school. Today was our son-in-law Jason's graduation from Ohio State University (OSU). Then next Saturday is our son Philip's graduation from UC (University of Cincinnati). OSU is the largest university in the US, with a total undergraduate class of about 39,000 on the Columbus campus. The graduation ceremony is held in the football stadium - the only place large enough! The stadium, built in the shape of a horseshoe, and affectionately known as the "Shoe" seats about 106,000. Football is really big at OSU, and the stadium will often be at capacity for games, especially when the "Buckeyes" are playing their arch rivals the Michigan Wolverines! I'm ashamed to say my daughter and son-in-law have never been to a game! We got up to Columbus about 10am and went out for brunch with Jen, Jason, Jason's parents and Jason's friend, Marcus. Graduation was at 1pm - about the hottest time of day and the temperature today was about 93F! Fortunately we were able to get some seats in the shade, and there was a good breeze blowing which helped. However, the poor graduates were wearing black gowns and sitting in full sun! The guest speaker was Brian Williams from NBC's Nightly News - and he was excellent. After the ceremony, Jen had the idea of going to an outdoor pool for a swim, however we discovered the pools didnt open till tomorrow, which surprised us, as generally outdoor pools around here open Memorial Day weekend at the end of May. So we went back to their apartment, had some good food, played some games and set off back home late evening. A great day! Congratulations, Jason!
