Sweet Crude

I cheated i little bit with this picture. Ships time was before midnight but Norwegian time (where we came from) was just after midnight on June 9th. So I took this picture according my camera time in the very early minutes of the 9th. High latitudes make short nights in summer. At midnight it becomes here just a little bit darker until one o'clock in the morning. Three o'clock the sun comes up again. What you see here is the Brent Bravo Platform, where the mother of all oil comes from; Brent Crude or Brent Blend. Prices and quality of oil are related to the crude oil they pump up here. Brent Oil is a light crude with low sulphur contents (0.37% although you wouldn't think so if you see the emission from the Flare boom), that is why it's also called 'Sweet Crude' This kind of crude is favorite when making light products like gasoline. Very popular oil. Name giving to a crude oil is not the only reason Brent was in the newspapers. Remember all the protests when Shell decided to get rid of the Brent Spar Buoy? That also took place on this very location. A shame? Maybe, but the only two reasons this took place, is our ever growing demand for luxury and the profits of the Oil Companies
