Remembrance Day, York University (11.11.11.11)

Services were well-attended at the flagpole's new location. Windy and cold but sunny. More photos here by a professional covering the event. The wreaths were laid in the usual fashion on tripod stands but later moved around the flagpole base because of the wind. They are tied together unobtrusively so they remain upright and secure. The soldiers are from the Toronto unit: The Royal Regiment of Canada. Some of them are York University students. The older gentleman in photo 9 is Chancellor Emeritus Peter Cory - a WWII veteran and the medal around his neck is The Order of Canada - this nation's highest civilian award (wiki).

I attend every year to honour the Canadians who liberated The Netherlands and the villages and cities where my family originates (Venhuizen, Hem, and Amsterdam).

I'm the guy with the stick next to one of the left-side light posts in photos 2 and 4 when viewing the high-resolution versions.
