As i said a few days ago, remember...

---------

watching the bbc coverage from the cenotaph, i'm pleased to hear about the arctic convoys, unheralded and mostly unrewarded for what has to have been some of the toughest naval service on record. i read 'hms ulysses' by alistair maclean for the first time recently, hugely powerful novel on the subject - worth investigating.

pleased to see combat stress represented up front. those who serve and suffer mentally rather than physically are just people that need help, yet they face an extra battle against the taboo of mental illness at a time they are in least shape to fight.

finally, two salutes: to the northumberland fusiliers, who take the name of my home county around the world, and to the fleet air arm, who sadly lost another veteran earlier this year. EP, much missed and never forgotten.
