REMEMBER TOO THE MERCHANT NAVY

In war & peace they plied their trade
Over the angry seas,
Remember them as here you stand,
Beneath these placid trees. (Capt. Joe Earl MNM)

In WWll over 3000 Merchant Navy and fishing vessels were lost - 17 from Bristol - and after the major Remembrance Service in the Center there was a smaller parade and service at the Merchant Navy Memorial on Welsh Back.

One of the blessings:

May the gentle wind be cool upon your back,
May the guiding star be clear along your way,
May the light of God shine on you
From the rising of the Sun
Until its setting beyond the Western Sea

I rather liked the shadow of the Merchant Marine Captain on this - the local Association is the largest in the country
