People's manifesto

Comic Mark Thomas got his audiences to suggest policies during the intervals of his shows a couple of years ago. They were so good he turned them into a book, which he read excerpts from at the Bank of Ideas tonight.

Here are some of them:

- The introduction of a maximum wage, index linked to the national average, such that any pay-rise for the richest would mean a pay-rise for all.
- Anyone who couldn't live on the maximum wage to leave the country as they are of no material use to anyone.
- Anyone who opposes a 0.01% financial transaction tax to follow the lot described above.
- To close all tax havens, and to invade Jersey and get our money back.
- The Daily Mail to have in its masthead "The paper that supported Hitler."
- If it rains on a bank holiday, the day-off should roll over
