View of the Wallace Monument

Out walking this afternoon on one of our rare sunny days I took this photo looking towards the Wallace Monument and Stirling University.

This iconic monument was built in the 19th century to commemorate Sir William Wallace the 13th century Scottish hero - and the subject of "Braveheart."

Following the success of this film tourists arrived in their thousands to view it and as a result the carpark had to be trebled in size to cope with the demand.

Such was Braveheartmania that one local bookshop had an American visitor walk into her shop wanting to buy every book she had on Wallace.
