Life through the lens...

"Whistle down the wind."

This may look like an ordinary barn, but it isn't!

Todays walk was over the border in Lancashire! (Passport at the ready but not needed!)

It started at the village of Downham.Owned by Lord Clitheroe. A beautiful village like way back in time.No TV aerials or telephone wires allowed.and it was where the 1961 film Whistle Down The Wind was filmed. One of my all time favourite films.

Story by Mary Haley Bell, wife of actor John Mills.
Daughter Haley Mills starred in the film she was just 15 then. She played Kathy.

But the real stars ,I think ,were her little brother and sister. Charlie and Nan, Played by two local school children.

Story:
Little Kathy discovers a man injured in their barn. She doesn't know he is a murderer hiding from the police.
Kathy and her brother and sister believe him to be the second coming of Jesus and try to hide him from the grown ups.

Yes, this is that barn in the film, and the farm house next to it is where they lived.(called Worsaw Hill Farm now)

It is a beautiful film. Shot in black and white. Produced by Richard Attenborough, and directed by Brian Forbes. Wonderful music by Malcolm Arnold.
It sometimes is shown again on TV. Watch it if you can. It is a simple but beautiful film. (and always makes me cry!!)

Well we had a good walk. It was very windy, but sunny most of the time.
Took some better shots but this one was special to me.
Hope you like it and the story behind the blip.
