Compositition Number 427 - GEORGIUS MES ABREDON

At the top of the drive at Haddo, Aberdeenshire, stand two rusty stags plus a huge granite urn. They are one Scotch Mile from Haddo House. Dating from 1847 the urn inscription reads: "GEORGIUS MES ABREDON ENSIS. MDCCCXLVII HAUD
IMMEMOR". Which I am sure translates as "George, the fourth earl in sorrowful reflection"
Quite what this means, neither I, nor the National Trust for Scotland, have any clear idea.
