A Writer's Life

At the ocean, gray means brown

The first real day of our "summer vacation". Because of work and many other related delays, the summer vacation became a late fall vacation, during Thanksgiving week. Not exactly the same climate, as we were quick to confirm. However, when on vacation (they are rare!), even rain and violent winds do not faze me.

I woke up to a gray sky, rains, the same as the day before, during the long trip to the Cape (11 hours). But at the end of the day, when we got to this very isolated beach, where the houses had been closed up for winter and the street overtaken by sand and water, I was, as we say in french, soufflée, both literally and figuratively. Pelted by the wind and the sand, I hid behind the camera. The sky was no longer gray. Everything had turned the color of the sand, shades of beige and light brown, water, sand, rocks, sky, light.
