Faring

Had a very enjoyable evening out, an excellent Indian meal followed by a fabulous outdoor performance.

Part of the St Magnus festival and the 850th anniversary of Earl Rognvald Kali Karlson's death the performance took place in front of the Cathedral.

Acrobats, jugglers, pole climbers bellydancers (real ones not our mad lot!), magicians, more acrobats, human statues, singers, the Up Helly Aa jar's Squad, the Kirkwall Pipe band and other amazing acts.

Superb entertainment which was pulled together under the idea of a 'faring', which is a gift or souvenir you bring home from a journey. The performers being the faring which Rognvald brought back from the crusades.

The finale included two acrobats doing an aerial display on the front face of the cathedral. It was quite spooky seeing them 'walk' up the building. They were suspended on wires but I couldn't resist a wee retouch on the pic.
