That Chin!

Today has been a long journey, literally. We packed the car up early, though my initial optimism was shortlived when I realised that not everything would fit. So although we crammed in as much as possible it meant we have had to leave some bigger gifts at home to open at our second Christmas. As wife climbed in the back of the car between the two little ones she was reminded of holidays from her past of being crammed in a car between all the luggage, and then we were off.

The journey was not too bad, especially given our record. It was on about the third playing of the Charlie and Lola story CD that Boy fell asleep. Approximately one hour after this Girl said her tummy hurt. At this point we were shooting down the bumpy part of the A43 with no stop in sight. Previousley this situation has ended with a fair amount of mess, stress and upset and also a very long clean up adding to the already big journey time.

However Girl simply asked Wife for special red tub (an empty celebrations tub), held it in front of herself and very neatly and calmly vomited away into it at leisure. Shorly after a layby approached and we pulled in for a very quick clean, breath of air and health check. Baby woke with lack of car motion, before, at Girls request carrying back on with the journey. Within half an hour she was muching away on a banana happily, and all three in the back were playing away with glee (Wife did exceptionally well entertaining them for the journey, whilst I sat in the front like a cab driver with boxes piled up in the passenger seat for company).

After a few more hours of driving and a stop for lunch we were in our northerly Christmas destination. It was not long till Girl was helping Granny decorate the tree whilst Grandpa and Boy played with the tinsel. You can see where that chin on Boy comes from now.

Is it wrong that I am so proud of my Girl, with her expert vomiting management skills?

A bit later after the little ones had finally gone to sleep, us adults sat down to watch obsessive compulsive hoarder on the telly box, I think watching it, Wife may have had some flash back of the car journey today.

So an eventful and sucessful day of travelling, where stress levels stayed remarkably low. Maybe we are getting better at this being a family lark.
