Ness Islands

This morning took Mrs P into Inverness and dropped her off to hit the sales. Passing Forbes Fountain noticed the river was fairly high so on the way back took a walk along Ladies Walk - the river would have to get a couple of feet higher to overflow which it has done once or twice before. This picture is looking downstream from one of the islands. On the right you see the "mill race" between island and road and the water is just about 6 inches below the level of the little bridge which connects the island to the road. The bridge is part of the Great Glen Way but sometimes this bit is impassable with dry feet. The council sometimes closes access to the islands if the water level gets too high. Just looking at the state of the grass it looked as if the level had been higher with water flowing from the Ness into the race. Looking at the GAUGE READINGS it looks quite possible. (Thanks to PeninsulaLight for drawing my attention to this site). It's still raining quite hard so could go higher.
