Poppy field, Giverny

In Giverny near the art gallery dedicated to Monet who lived in the village in his latter years, is this poppy field, seeded to evoke Monet's paintings featuring poppies. It's not the real location of those works - just an impression.

Perhaps it was the poppies that inspired a visit this same weekend to the Somme battlefield and these reflections on the First World War.
