Between fen and mountains

Black silt

This is black silt if you have ever wondered. It is top grade agricultural land so no wonder things grow well round here. I once uprooted a tree in the back garden and dug a hole two metres deep and there was not a stone or root to be found. It looks so rich you might even feel like eating it. I have heard that some people have an inclination to eat earth. Apparently, in small quantities it is unlikely to do you harm. This, then, must be the sort of soil that they would hanker after. There are no leaves on the trees, the land is dormant but there is still a stark beauty in the big sky and open vista.
