Fight or flight

I saw a bunch of seagulls fighting over food and took a snap of this one in mid-flight. All animals know about is survival. Yet all of them seem to have their fill every day. This reminded me of when Jesus says:

"I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him! Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows." (Luke 12:4-7)

Jesus tells his disciples here to have no fear, not even for those who can kill them physically. The only thing people should fear is God; the one who has authority to cast people into hell. Yet God cares about them deeply, more than the birds, whom he also feeds and takes care of. God is perfectly just and all powerful, this is both a terrifying and awesome thing.
