Day nine: Hoi An

Train from Hué this morning to Hoi An, a fantastic historic town not yet despoiled by tourism. There are a lot of tourists, yes; but the burghers of Hoi An seem to care about maintaining the old to encourage the new(-comers). Maybe not wholly noble but noble enough.

Quick train mention: trains in Vietnam are splendidly, not to say squalidly, basic. "Soft a/c 1st" is in no way comparable to India let alone anywhere else. I know it should be expected/that I shouldn't care but, with a slight hangover, I really cared. Passionately.

Hoi An though. Lovely. Really lovely. This is the Japanese Covered Bridge (somewhat famous - my cultural reference would point you to the Hairy Bikers, sure there are better) which is decidedly handsome.
