East Coker

I had to blip something different today and finally tramped up the hill above the Almshouses to Coker Court and the Church of St Michael and All Angels where the ashes of T S Eliot are buried. This is the commemorative plaque in Ham Stone attached to the wall in a quiet corner.

His Elyot forebears from the village sailed to America in the 1660's and this was the deciding factor as to where his remains were to be buried. When working in England Eliot visited East Coker briefly twice in the 1930's and the second of his Four Quartets is entitled East Coker, a rather sombre poem about this area. T S Eliot was certainly a very complex and enigmatic character with a very lugubrious voice and his verse, I find, is challenging!

News of T in Tignes! The two car loads arrived safely but they have not had much opportunity to ski as there is too much snow, the pistes are closed, so they hope to be able to toboggan instead!

This blip, I understand, is my 365th - arrived at with a hop, skip and a jump! Just want to say thanks to everyone for their interest and support and how much I appreciate your friendship and your wonderful and interesting blips with their stories.
