Another Languedoc year...

Kong

Just to make sure life hadn't become too cushy, we found ourselves at the emergency vet this afternoon.

Jonty's newly-found toy is a Kong. Our other two dogs have played with them for six years. Jonty started playing with one yesterday and just 24 hours later he got his lower jaw wedged in the hole that runs right through a Kong.

Our usual vet isn't open on Saturday afternoon, but the other vets' practice was open and welcoming. We were asked to bring him straight in. Jonty reverts to his terrified rescue kennel persona under such circumstances, so he needed a general anaesthetic for the vet to be able to remove the toy.

She used a reversible anaesthetic then, after a quick removal, gave him the antidote to bring him round. It took him a full half an hour to wake up, and even then he didn't recognise us and was terrified of everything.

We were told to keep him in a darkened room as the ketamine would make his eyes sensitive to light.
