Brasil Nuts

Belem Day 11
Amazing that many Brasil nuts are still shelled by hand, using a knife and chopping board - both very well worn as can be seen here. This is at the Ver-o-Peso market this morning. Ver o Peso literally means 'check the weight' as it was the main customs point for the Amazon. The market's an amazing place and full of life, colours, smells and an array of unknown (to us!) tropical fruits and fish and the fact that it's right on the bank of the Amazon makes it special. We were invited to the school director's family home for lunch again and today it was a huge Lebanese spread! If I continue to eat like this, I'll be rolling back to Rio! We're being very well looked after.
