Twisty In Roots
First night back at school last night. Let's just say it was a bit slow and we'll leave it at that.
I've been given a German copy of The Hobbit* to read. And I was looking forward to it as I know the story quite well and thought it would be a manageable challenge... Alas, yet another triumph of hope over realism. The first paragraph alone had me reaching for my special stupid expression.
If I were to note down every adjective and sentence construction that I did not know, you probably wouldn't be surprised. I can be very thorough in an utterly tedious way. And conversely I can be utterly tedious in a very thorough way.
And if you doubt that, then all I'll say is I'm going to spend the next three hours practising more grammar.
*Der kleine Hobbit. And I notice from the cover it was written by John Ronald R. Tolkien and not as I am so used to seeing J.R.R Tolkien. I wonder why they didn't go the whole hog and have the Reuel there as well.
