Jarvisness

Port O'Leith

Jarvises are land dwellers, and they are reluctant to spend large amounts of time at sea unless it happens to be on board a luxury liner with numerous bars. The life of the sailor is not for the Jarvis, despite the occupation's reputation for heavy drinking and having girls in every port. However, a bar that caters to the maritime industry, as well as the local criminal element, is often one that a Jarvis will enjoy, especially when it is managed by a friend and fellow inebriate. Hence an evening in the Port O'Leith just outside Edinburgh (amalgamation is still a dirty word in these parts). Quaffed several shots of Padron liqueur with some Catalans, who warned that Las Ramblas in Barcelona was full of thieves and hoors. I told them the same was often said of the Port O'Leith.
