Jarvisness

Royal Hotel, Childers

Jarvises tend to limit their time in rural communities as drinking hours and choice of drinking locales are generally restrictive. Only large cities can provide the Jarvis with a suitable smorgasbord of bars from which to choose. However, when a Jarvis finds himself in a small town, it is of course incumbent upon him to assess the options, limited though they may be. Good old Australian country pubs are a dying breed, as many of them have been modernised so that they are indistinguishable from bad suburban pubs. The Royal Hotel in Childers (population 1350) is a proper old country watering hole, run by the same couple for 35 years and imbued with a sense of propriety lacking in the three other pubs in the town.
