Wooly chompers

A day spent looking at animal's teeth.

Most of these are from the lower jaws of sheep. The amount of wear is related to the age of the animal, and the age-at-slaughter suggests husbandry practices.

If you have lots of young, but fully grown beasts, then that suggests they were kept for meat. Loads of calves and older animals suggests a dairy herd. Old sheep generally means wool production.

It all makes for a pretty boring photo; I apologise, but it's all I got today....
