Between fen and mountains

This is an area of industrialised agriculture. There are those who come to this area for its cheap housing in retirement. They sell their properties down south and buy larger houses and then some complain of their peace being shattered by the early morning activity at the packing stations or the lorries and tractors that shake the houses in our villages (I have rubber balls wedged behind our radiators to prevent the rattle!) They get short shrift from the locals. I cannot join in this condemnation, not having the status of 'local' myself. After 25 years, I may have achieved some sort of acceptance but no more than that; this is the fens after all! Farm buildings vary from modern and efficient with gleaming silos and state of the art machinery to run down smallholdings with old equipment and dilapidated buildings. The latter certainly have more charm though whether they are fit for purpose is another matter. I doubt if they are fit for other more romantic purposes either (see peopletwitcher).
