Above Stickle Tarn

Simon and Bill standing above Stickle Tarn, Langdale, Lake District. The view is south across the Langdale Valley to the southern fells.

Captain Bill was staying with Simon and Jean over for the weekend , so it would have been a shame not to fit in a reasonable hill walk. This weekend has had the best weather for the last month. There was more cloud about than yesterday, but it was otherwise frosty and dry and the light in the mountains was constantly changing as cloud gathered and blew through again.

Captain Bill has set his sights on doing all the Wainwright tops in the Lake District, so today we polished off six of them. Starting up Dungeon Ghyll the first top was Dungeon Ghyll, then we went on to Pike of Stickle, then on to Harrison Stickle, crisscrossed to Thunnacar and Pavey Ark, and then off to Sergeant Man. Finally we descended past Stickle Tarn into Stickle Ghyll and back to the car.

We topped off the weekend with a fine meal for the three of us, plus Jean and little Matthew cooked by Wifie.
