An Eye full of Sky

A full day in Carcassone today complete with its 1800's 'Medieval' fortress (some of it is very old, but most of it isn't), throngs of tourists and tacky shops selling plastic halbards! The fortress is definitely better viewed from the outside.

The weather was still a little changeable, despite the weather forecast, but the bright light and interesting clouds meant that the polariser came out to play. It was definitely sunglasses weather.

We went for a walk round the ramparts and the castle battlements with views over the rooftops followed by a leisurely lunch (and a run about for the girls) and then through the old Cite to the Basilica. Just behind the basilica is an ancient amphitheatre. Tonight, the amphitheatre is hosting ZZ Top - they've probably been around about as long as the ancient stones!

D and I brought the girls home via the supermarket, while Mrs42 and F did some shopping (they actually didn't buy anything).

Massive salmon steaks on the BBQ this evening with tarte au pommes for afters. Mmmmm.
